Welcome to the 11th International Ventilation through the Ages Symposium.
Growing awareness of the complexity of the management of critically ill patients has led to competence in mechanical ventilation and organ support being considered a basic requirement in many fields of healthcare. VTA 11 will continue our proud tradition of advancing knowledge in the field of ventilation and organ support in critically ill patients. We proudly present the very latest developments in our ever-evolving field. Our programme will span the entire spectrum from basic respiratory physiology to extracorporeal gas exchange, while simultaneously taking the time to reflect on some thought-provoking ethical topics.
VTA attracts intensivists, intensive care nurses, anesthesiologists, physicians, paediatricians and neonatologists, registrars, students and medical officers, clinical technologists and the medical and pharmaceutical partners. We, as ever, regard your support for the presentation of this meeting as an honour and a quest to pursue continuing medical education.
Time spent reviewing this basic human need, together with the knowledge and information on current concepts will assist professionals in enhancing patient care, thus fulfilling our primary role as health care providers.
We welcome our distinguished international and local faculty who are experts in their fields – thank you for your time and valuable contributions. We invite delegates to interact with faculty, network and engage in robust discussions. This is not a symposium of lectures but rather a series of conversations to allow sharing of ideas.
Finally, we wish to thank our trade partners for their immense support to VTA. We urge delegates to visit the exhibition stands and engage in a hands-on experience. Interact with the technology in the exhibition area and ask as many questions as you like. You will find that our trade partners are more than willing to share specifics and information about their products.
I wish you a great educational meeting.
