Dear Delegates and Trade Partners

A warm welcome to the 12th International Ventilation through the Ages Symposium (VTA23), which celebrates the 20th anniversary of VTA!

So much has happened since we last met and the world will likely never be the same again. However, the VTA team is ready to get back to providing you with insights into the newest and best innovations in critical care, of course with our usual focus on respiratory support. We are thankful to be able to look forward to meeting each other face-to-face so that we can once again enjoy lively discussions and robust debates.

During the past three years, so much emphasis has been placed on health care aiming to protect large populations from the global COVID19 pandemic. However, VTA23 will focus on advances that allow for the personalisation of therapeutic strategies, which recognize the unique nature of each and every individual patient. This promotes the best possible outcomes for everyone. This years’ scientific programme will explore strategies seeking to improve diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Adjunctive therapies maximising patient recovery will also be highlighted. Lastly, advancements in medical technology necessitate stringent attention to good ethical practice in order to guide appropriate practice for specific patient populations.

VTA has always attracted a broad multi-disciplinary audience and we are honoured and thankful for your support. The Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Critical Care Department invites our guests and delegates to continue to enjoy this meeting as we collectively strive toward excellence in critical care and pulmonary support.

Thank you for the outstanding contributions of our exceptional international and local faculty. You truly are leaders in our field, and we encourage all delegates to engage and glean as much as possible from our team.

Thank you also, to our trade partners, who continue to help make VTA the amazing, successful showcase that it is. We urge delegates to visit the exhibition stands, interact with the trade and explore the state-of-the-art technology on display.

Wishing you an unforgettable meeting.
